As many of you know 2017 has been such an incredible year for horror/thriller movies!  I have been blown away by Get Out, Split, Raw, Annabelle: Creation, & Super Dark Times!

These are all the movies of note that are playing or coming soon through 2017!

IT

IN THEATERS NOW

As children continue to go missing in Derry, the Losers Club is stalked by a terrifying clown.

Well you would be the minority here if you still haven’t graced this movie with your presence.  It is still in theaters and is definitely worth your time surpasses the all-time horror movie box office record!  While there are definitely some scary scenes, this movie is at its best when is is a coming-of-age film. Viewers are already counting down until September 2019.

Mother

IN THEATERS NOW (prob not for long)

To be honest, all I know about the plot is a group of people are coming into Jennifer Lawrence’s home and she seems perturbed by it.

I had all intentions of seeing this film, but the F score really turned me off.  Plus, I think she is overrated as an actress.  It’s crazy how much reviews really taint people from seeing films, but I figured I could wait until the Netflix release to crucify it.

Friend Request

September 22, 2017

A popular student accepts a friend request from a not as liked girl and suddenly she and her friends are fighting a presence for their lives.

My friend liked it. I trust his opinion.  I’d just wouldn’t take this film seriously and maybe not spend money on it.

Flatliners

September 29, 2017

A group of doctors are stopping their hearts and coming back to life to see what happens in the minutes they are dead.

Again, was very interested in this film until the reviews were nothing spectacular.  Honestly, the original was nothing to brag about either minus William Baldwin looking sexy. Still could be a fun film to check out and may hit up $5 Tuesday movie nights at AMC for this one.

Super Dark Times

October 3, 2017-Available on Itunes

High schoolers are growing up in the 90’s and coping after tragedy strikes making it a super dark movie during super dark times.

Yes, I know everyone is sick of me writing about this movie BUT I WON’T STOP! It’s too good. Please do not this miss this film.  Every review I have read raves about Kevin Phillip’s directorial debut. The acting, writing, cinematography, and storyline are flawless. PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE Check it out!  Every person who I recommended it to raved about the film and its provides the perfect insight into a high schooler growing up in a dark town in the 90’s.

Cult of Chucky

October 3, 2017-Now Streaming on Netflix

Chucky returns for Nica in her new insane asylum home and reunites with some “friends.”

There has been some good buzz around this movie and although I would never admit this to Jason aloud, I really enjoyed the latest installment.  Even if you hate Chucky (like normal people do), it is still worth a viewing for (Slight SPOILER) an adorable short haired Chucky and totally unexpected storyline and direction it takes the characters in.  A Good flick for Halloween time.

Raw

October 4, 2017-Now Streaming on Netflix

A girl entering vet school tastes meat for the first time and it turns deadly.

To be fair, the film actually came out in March, but so many people missed it due to being foreign. There were three films I raved about all year.  This was one of them.  Honestly, the shock of the unexpectedness of how the movie plays out makes the film so enjoyable.  Although not based on a true story, this movie seems so realistic and it has the casting, score, and storyline to thank for it. Honestly it was so disturbing because it felt so real.  I rewatched this past weekend and was still impressed by small things I missed.  Even better viewing a second time! DO NOT MISS IT!

Better Watch Out

October 6, 2017

A babysitter is hiding from a home invader when suddenly the storyline is not what it seems.  Loved this movie when we saw it earlier at Popcorn Frights Film Festival.  I am such a sucker for Christmas horror since it’s the happiest time of the year crossed with something horrific.  Went in thinking this was another home invasion film with some pretty decent actors; came out with a smile on my face obscenely cursing at how amazing it was.  I literally remembering mouthing words of excitement and shock to Jason during the film.

Amityville: The Awakening

October 12, 2017

Plot-People refuse to believe this house is haunted and live there because they are dumb.

It’s safe to say we shouldn’t be expecting a four-star rating since they have been sitting on this movie for over a year, but I like Bella Thorne.  Worth viewing in my eyes for this reason.

Happy Death Day

October 13, 2017

A girl dies on her birthday and is forced to relive the day until she uncovers her killer’s identity.

I have been raving about this movie since the trailer dropped months ago!  Such a fun movie for Friday the 13th that I hope does not disappoint.  I’m wondering how obvious the killer will actually be and whether or not she actually dies at the conclusion of the film. Either way, the mask is so creepy looking that I’m hoping we’ll see it pop up at some at Halloween parties.

The BabySitter

October 13, 2017

A boy just spying on his babysitter witnesses unexpected events.

This. Looks. Silly. Netflix has been pouring out new movies left and right and honestly, I wish they didn’t.  TV shows are awesome on Netflix.  I’ll give that to them.  Movies are pretty terrible though.  Death Note, You Get Me, #Reality High were all awful with some few high moments.  To the Bone luckily saved them and the reason why I continue to give these films a chance.  Whatever, again Bella Thorne is such a talented actress and it is included in my subscription.  I may or may not just be viewing to see Robbie Amell shirtless.  The guy is a babe, who keeps playing a high school student regardless of his almost 30-year-old age.

The Snowman

October 20, 2017

Michael Fassbender is hunting a killer who replaces his victim’s heads with snowmen.

The first reviews came out and they are pretty fantastic.  This looks enjoyable and fun for a Halloween viewing. I Always love trying to figure out the killer and with big named actors, this seems promising.

Leatherface

October 20, 2017

An escapee teenage Leatherface and friends kidnap a nurse from the mental institution with being pursue by a vengeful lawman.

Sound like a typical Leatherface storyline that results in disappointment?   Still sounds a bit better than inheriting a house with a famous murderer living in the basement. I won’t ever move on from, “Do your thing, cuz.” WHYYYYY, WRITER WHY!?

Tragedy Girls

October 20, 2017

Two girls begin murdering people in their town and blaming it on a serial killer so their social media account will get more engagement.

I saw this at the Popcorn Frights Film Festival and it was one of the films I was most excited for. The main actresses shine as cute psychopaths and I loved seeing Brianna’s versatility post Deadpool. Honestly, the acting is awesome and the cameos kill me (pun intended).  Just an enjoyable, fun film that continues to have us wondering how many people do it all for the fame through media and social media. Such a lingering question and this film comes with some interesting answers.

Tyler Perry’s Boo 2! A Madea Halloween

October 20, 2017

Madea and the crew continue to try to survive Halloween.

Finally saw the first movie and honestly enjoyed it as long as you take it at face-value.  Madea and her insane family and friends are back to defend themselves from evil.  Each movie has some important lesson and the jokes are always enjoyable. I’ll definitely be seeing the second film.

The Killing of a Sacred Deer

October 20, 2017

A boy has to make a sacrifice after another boy’s behavior turns sinister.

Super interested in this film and not 100% of what it is all about minus a boy killing a sacred deer…?

Creep 2

October 24, 2017

A woman meeting lonely, Craigslist men answers an ad for a man claiming to be a serial killer.

My friend was persistent about viewing this film for a year before I finally gave it a go.  I downloaded for a three-hour flight and was satisfied 20 minutes in.  The poster makes it look like an older movie and I’ve seen like a million average found footage films, so I was skeptical how fantastic and original it could be. About half way through the film, a person walking down the aisle tapped my shoulder and said, “You’ll really enjoy this and the ending.”  From then on out, I was impressed at how it played out!  The ending might be the best-found footage film ending I’ve ever seen!!!  Especially since not many people know how to end a found footage film. ANYWAY, if you haven’t seen Creep, check it out before the release of the sequel.  I was not sure how they were going to make a sequel, but the trailer looks awesome!!

Found Footage 3D

October 26, 2017-Shudder

A crew besides to make a found footage film and instead becomes the subjects in an actual found footage film.

Jason and I had the honor of seeing the premiere of this film in Fort Lauderdale last November.  I love found footage films and was pretty excited to see this one!  The only minor setback was that I heard the poster was designed by someone lame. I mean the guy couldn’t even get the PFFF to accept his poster as the main poster for their festival…  He must be the worst designer of all time. It’s Jason by the way for people who haven’t caught on!  If you can look past that, you will really enjoy this film.  It is a smart twist on the genre and something I found myself hilariously laughing at. I hold this film right up there with the best of the best.  Yes Jason I was just kidding, even your poster is cool AF.

Jigsaw

October 27, 2017

When Jigsaw style murders occur, detectives try to uncover who is play Jigsaw since his death over a decade ago.

Is it just me or didn’t it feel like this series just concluded?  My thoughts exactly until I realized it has been seven years since the final chapter.  Honestly, I was hoping for a fun, Halloween movie with blood and guts and no-thinking kills and here it is.  I’m glad this franchise is resurrected because I love Billy, just wish Tobin Bell would grace us with his presence once again.  I know there has been an origin scene in one of the previous installments, but can’t they give us a real origin movie?

Murder on the Orient Express

November 10, 2017

Agatha Christie’s infamous novel (and movie remake) is brought to life as a clue style murder needs to be solved before the murder strikes again.

Yes, this really isn’t a horror genre movie, but I consider all Agatha Christie’s stories to be somewhat creepy. Thus, resulting in horror genre.  Not sure if I’m feeling this or whether it’ll be another overhyped movie that people wish would get Oscar buzz.

Polaroid

December 1, 2017

A girl discovers a polaroid camera that kills you once you photo is snapped.

Wasn’t this already a movie? Again, this film never looked promising to begin with; however, who doesn’t enjoy a mindless horror movie here and there?  Once this was pushed back a few months after marketing, it seemed this film would never have a chance.

He’s Out There

December 1, 2017

A mother and her two daughters fight for their lives against a psychopath.

Not much revealed about this storyline, but awaiting a trailer to continue to peak my interest.

The Shape of Water

December 8, 2017

A mute woman creates a connection with a fish-like creature who is held in captivity.

Not sure if this is horror, but I know all of Guillermo del Toro’s brilliant films always incorporate something sinister.  Heard rave reviews from many friends.  Even if the storyline is generic, I am sure the make-up, music, and effects are going to be near perfect.  Plus, Doug Jones has never disappointed me.  Note to Jason who is a known Doug Jones movie hater:  Not even in The Bye-Bye Man.  Yes, the movie sucked, but he still looked good and was all creepy and shit.
